According to the World Bank's Russia Economic Report, the country's economy has transitioned from a planned system to a mixed market economy with substantial natural resource reserves.
The report highlights Russia's ability to diversify its markets and forge new economic partnerships in the East and Global South. Despite the weight of Western sanctions, the country's gross domestic product (GDP) stood at 17.8 trillion US dollars in 2021, making Russia the eleventh largest economy globally.
